Moodboard Monday: Baby Nursery Time!

Morning y'all! Did y'all have a nice Easter weekend?  We had a nice relaxing day with family.  Edward had more sugar than I think he's ever had in his life.  He then danced, threw eggs at everyone, had an epic meltdown about a kangaroo, crashed hard for 45 minutes and then woke up hungry.  Sounds like college. 


I spent the weekend dreaming up a nursery situation for Little Robertson.  We basically just moved the nursery from the old house to the new house and while it doesn't need much, it does need some fine-tuning.   Edward's nursery in the old house was bright and fun, but I want this one to be a little quieter.  With our new house, we inherited this gorgeous grey and cream wallpaper that I have no intention of ever removing.  My goal for this room is to have a classic, sanctuary-like feel with a couple of modern touches (like replacing the torn up baskets with clean acrylic and lacquered boxes and such). So here's what I came up with:

Little Robertson Nursery

The color scheme is basically white, black and tan with blue and white accents.  The two bird prints are from GalleryDirect.com.  Have y'all heard of it?   It's a great web site for affordable art.  (Full disclosure:  my sister now works for them, but I haven't been compensated to tell y'all about them) Anyway, they have a huge database of prints and you can choose your size and material on which it is printed i.e. canvas, paper, aluminum, acrylic, mirror, or birchwood.  You can also upload your own print or photo for them to work with.  I'll do a post on some of my favorite selections later this week. 

I ordered the Great Blue Heron print on framed acrylic to give it a more modern look and a really large canvas print of the Cranes to go over the changing table.  I think I spent about $200 on the whole thing, which is great because I'm trying to do this nursery on a budget. 

And just for fun, here's the Girl Nursery I put together when I swore I was having a girl:

Baby Girl Nursery

Basically, flowers and hearts and a pink ceiling.  It would have been so cute, but I'm excited about my tranquil boy nursery now.  I'm debating whether or not to paint the ceiling in the boy nursery.  It depends on how much energy I have.  I also want to focus a little more on Edward's big boy room because it doesn't feel quite right to me yet.  I need to cozy it up a bit.

We find out what we're having today!  It's such an exciting day, like Christmas morning.  The old cliche holds true - I don't care what it is as long as it's healthy.  But I really, 100% mean that.  I figure, I'll get the child I'm supposed to have.  This whole process is such a big miracle if you really think about it, and I have too much respect for that to think I could ever know which kind of baby would be better for our family. 

On a totally superficial decorating front, this will help determine what I do next in my house.  I have some ideas for the guest room, but I want to make sure I can do what I want in the nursery first.  I'm going to try to go easy on the nursery this time around regardless of what we are having (Kip just did a happy dance), but obviously, if it's a girl I'll want to make a few more changes than I would for a boy. 

When I found out Edward was going to be a boy, I literally headed straight from the doctor's office to the paint store.  His nursery was bright and fun and exactly what I wanted at the time.  You can see all the pictures of it here. 

Ok, off to go pick out my "find out what kind of baby we are having" outfit, which most likely will consist of yoga pants and some sort of shirt.

I was like BABY BABY BABY OOHHHH!

I'm so happy to finally get to share this with you!  I remember a little less than a year ago when I announced that we signed a contract on our dream house (on this design blog), a few of y'all were disappointed I wasn't announcing baby news.  I kind of love that because there's no one who loves baby news more than I do (so if you have any, feel free to share). 

Some of my friends figured it out when I was complaining about how sick I was earlier.  I have had a pretty bad case of morning sickness this time around.  Not Kate Middleton bad or anything, but not the most fun.  Hoping it subsides sooner rather than later.  I'll have some posts next week on my family blog documenting how I told Kip and the rest of the family if anyone's interested.  Basically,  I made a long video slideshow of pictures of Edward to a Justin Bieber song (naturally) with a special surprise at the end.  It was pretty funny to see the different reactions. 

Needless to say, we are over the moon excited! We will for sure be finding out what we're having.  No, I don't care whether it's a boy or a girl despite my recent pink obsession.  If it's a boy, all the more reason to pepper the rest of the house with pink, right? I figure, I'll get the child I'm supposed to have.
