Halloween 2012 Recap

Morning y'all! Boy am I a Scrooge! I'm not a big Halloween person.  I don't know why, I'm just not.  The only time I ever got into it was in law school when we had a crazy Halloween party.  Every year I went as Britney.  I met Kip at the first Halloween party, which makes for an awesome story, and, for that, Brit Brit is a truly important part of my life's historical narrative.  So maybe for that reason alone, I should change my attitude because one of my top five life moments happened on Halloween.

Anyway, yesterday was one of those awesome toddler days.  Awesome in the sense that you're like, "um hey who are you and what did you do with my sweet Edward??" I found myself saying No A LOT.  Like, "No, you may not put all of your dinosaurs in the toilet!" or "No, put down that chair."  And he found himself screaming all his wants and desires rather than asking in a normal tone.  I say this not to complain, but to complain.

"Mommy's a fun-hater"

Ignore the mess in the picture above.  Edward made it, not me.  It was just one of those days.  (I also caught whatever flu/general malaise Kip had the day before so that was not helping).

Soo despite the fact that everybody was crabby, we managed attempt to get into the Halloween spirit.  Kip carved pumpkins.  I usually help, but I wasn't feeling so hot so I helped Edward draw his pumpkin on the right and traced his hands.

It was our first Halloween in the new neighborhood so we weren't sure what to expect.  My plan was to answer the door in my Bieber shirt so the young girls would be like, "that mom is a cool mom.  I want to babysit for her."

I didn't anticipate Edward hiding every time trick-or-treators rang the doorbell.

Soo instead I was the childless lady answering the door in a Bieber t-shirt, which may have been kind of creepy.   One mom talked to me all about how impressed she was with the Bieber concert and his tour schedule.  I hope I run into her at the park.  We'd probably be good friends.  And I did get a "BIEBER!!!" from a dad on the sidewalk, but overall I'm pretty sure most people weren't sure about my whole non-costume/Bieber shirt situation.

Speaking of non-costume, I brought home multiple costumes for Edward to wear.  He reacted with fear and anger.  He wouldn't even let me get them near him with those things.

Kip tried to entice him to wear last year's pumpkin costume.

Edward loved it.  But still refused to wear it.

Luckily, I had one last trick up my sleeve.

Superman pajamas from Old Navy (they have cute little boy pjs right now y'all).  Even though we weren't trick or treating, I needed something to put on Facebook so I wouldn't be left out of the Cute Kids in Costumes Parade.

So I dressed Edward up as my brother, Uncle Bo Bo circa 1987.

It was an "iconic" moment for our family.  Anyone who knew our family during that time, knew my brother wore his Superman pajamas everywhere.  Kip's family said Kip had Superman pajamas when he was little, too.  Apparently, Kip thought he could fly and jumped into a wall the first time he wore them.

Like father, like son:

So while no one was really in the mood for Halloween, we still managed to have some fun without upsetting Edward, and bring back some really wonderful memories on both sides of our family. There's always next year.

And now 'Tis the Season! And I couldn't be happier!

P.S.  My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the people affected by Sandy who didn't get Halloween.  I will do better next year, if for no other reason, than because you never know when something can be taken right out from under you.

Bloggity Blah, Trick or Treat

You may have noticed a lack of blogging here. Want excuses? I'm spending a lot of time in the car. Two schools, two different start times, two different end times = lots and lots of driving. Did I mention that I hate driving? I hate driving.

Can one blog from an I-Pad? Anyone have an old I-Pad they don't want anymore? Maybe I could blog while driving. Or while waiting in a school parking lot for one of my little darlings. Seems like people with I-Pads have their shit together. Please send I-Pad stat to initiate more blogging.

I'm sure you are dying to know what M and m are for Halloween right?

Months ago Meazi told us she wanted to be Aphrodite. There is some disagreement about who suggested that Melese should be Eros/Cupid. I thought it was Meazi's idea, she said I suggested it. Maybe Melese decided himself, but Meazi hated the idea of being Cupid's mother on Halloween so she quickly chose a new Goddess:

Artemis the Hunter.

 Melese remains Cupid.

Sounds pretty highbrow eh? I bet your thinking, "See how bright and creative kids who aren't allowed to watch tv are?"

The truth is Meazi's very first costume choice, months and months ago, was Strawberry Shortcake.

We told her she had to pick something else.

Lucky for us, her favorite book at the time was this one:

She loves this book so much.

We went to the Getty Villa to get some additional costume details...

I'm just happy no one lost a finger this Halloween. Steven used a jigsaw to carve the pumpkins.

Have a Happy Halloween.

House Happenings & Halloween Decor

Afternoon y'all! I just woke up.  HAAAAAAAAA! Just kidding.  I did sleep until 8 though, which is amazing when you have a 2 year-old/early-riser.  He's been waking up at 5:30 am every morning and this morning I was all, "oh no you di'n't!" and I gave him some milk and a kiss and he went back to bed.  It's a small but huge victory for this mama.

Sooo last night I got a very lovely package from Jennifer at The Pink Pagoda.  For those who don't know, she has a gorgeous Blue & White Porcelain online store, and in a ridiculous moment of blue and white kismet, I won her ginger jar giveaway!  Well, yesterday I received not one, but two ginger jars.  I thought it was a mistake, but Jennifer insisted it was a housewarming gift.  It was so sweet and beyond generous of her.  I can tell you they are truly gorgeous in person.  You should all go out and buy a pair right now.  I'm not even just saying that to be nice.  I'm going to try and do all of my Christmas shopping through bloggers' online stores, you know support my peeps, and I will definitely be spending time in all of The Pink Pagoda shops - she sells porcelain, prints and accessories (like my famous iPhone case, and cute mugs and pillows and stamps, oh my!) Definitely a great resource for gifts and blue and white.

So here are my new ginger jars on the mantle in the family room:

Purdy purdy right!

One more view from the front door.  I'm kind of obsessed.

Speaking of front door, it has not been painted.  I'm totally confident in my painting skillz, but I'm not confident in Edward's, and since he is hell-bent on "helping" me, I decided to leave it to the pros.  Now I just need to call the pros ...

Here's my new little black and white pillow from the Nate Berkus for Target collection.

I'm not like obsessed with Nate or anything, but I happened to walk past this pillow and then I felt it and sniffed it (I worry about smells) and I was like, "oooh soft" and somehow it ended up on my sofa and I like it.  It feels like cashmere.

Here's a little display in my entry.  I share this because those pink shells miraculously made it through the move.  I picked them up at the beach in Costa Rica and carried them on the plane in my pocket with a baby and a diaper bag.  They're super delicate so I'm amazed they've lasted.

Things on the table to remind me to do them:

Bag of silver stuff to polish, tobacco leaf plates to hang (I'm in love with the tobacco leaf pattern), and mini-pot pies to make from the November House Beautiful.  (It's Sandra Lee so it's easy)

And finally, the moment you've all been waiting for .......

my Halloween Decor!

Er uh hmmm.  I just, well, there's a pumpkin? and a jar of candy?  The Laura Trevey Rooster is going to be framed someday.   Hopefully soon, but ya never know! Anyway, I just can't get in to Halloween this year.  Maybe it's because Edward is terrified of every costume I try to put on him.  I think we're just going to skip it this year.  Except for the candy part.

Okay y'all! I've talked way too long! My posts have gotten way longer lately.  I'm a woman of a few thousand words, I've been told.  Have a lovely day!

Happy Halloween!

Not spooky black and white bedroom that I love very much

I don't know about y'all, but I'm ready for Halloween to be ovah! I'm not a fan of black and orange together, and all of the spiders and cobwebs and scary ghost decor kind of depresses me.  I mean, there's really no way to get around it.  Ugh I sound so grumpy.  That's what happens when I blog at night.

Moodboard Mondays will have to start next week or when I can get myself together.  This whole "not into napping anymore" thing my child is doing is throwing me for a loop.  That and he must be watched or entertained constantly lest he get into the dog's water bowl, the toilet, the pantry or the stairs (his favorite place to play now).  Yesterday, I was showering and I turned around and he was IN THE SHOWER WITH ME! Right next to me.  In his footie pajamas.  Laughing at all the water falling on his head.

But he is pretty cute, so I just end up laughing at him all day long.

Here he is running away from me.

Yes, we've raked our leaves since these pictures were taken.

Anyway, I love reading your comments, and I promise soon, I'll be back to moodboarding and commenting an all of your lovely blogs as well! And to my new Anonymous friend whom I don't know personally but I know in blue and white spirit, I would be happy to do some posts on my favorite blue and white rooms! Stay tuned!

Have a Happy Halloween!
