Kansas City Spaces

Morning y'all! I was going to show you some images of some holiday homes from the holiday issue of Kansas City Spaces, but my scanner is not cooperating.  However, I did discover that our local magazine revamped their web site and you can now browse images by room.  So I spent most of the morning doing this very thing and I saved some of my favorites for you.

All photos via SpacesKC.com

First, this bedroom.  That rug and panel are gorgeous and I love a good portrait.  I just really love a room that looks like it's been collected over time.  Nothing about this room came from a catalog.

I mean, this kitchen is gorgeous.  Really, really gorgeous.  Like it might be one of my top favorite kitchens of all time.

Just a simple, white bathroom, but I love the detail at the bottom of the vanity next to the marble floor.  It's just enough to keep the space from looking too sterile.  It all just feels very clean.

I can only take turquoise in small doses (I know it's weird because I'm obsessed with blue), but this bedroom does it well.  A little bit Albert Hadley inspired.

Love this dining room.

 And this little kitchenette area.

Totally inspired by this desk/library situation.

The thing I love about a local shelter magazine is that you find homes that aren't necessarily on trend.  Usually they are the result of real families collecting things that are important to them over the years.  Kansas City has so many different styles of homes and so many creative people living in them.  The longer I live here the more I appreciate the people here.  It's a really cool town y'all!  I definitely see more variation in this magazine than I do in any other because it's more focused on the region than a specific style.  I'm also a total creepster and am constantly trying to see inside people's homes at night when all of the lights are on.  I mean, I stop short of getting out of my car, but if I'm driving by your house and your front door is open, I'm craning my neck to see inside.  I love to see how people live, especially my neighbors.  If you want to see more, check out spaceskc.com

Ok y'all, does your city have a shelter mag? What's it called?  I need to expand my peeping.

Thomas Britt

Representin'

I get really excited when I find out someone with superfab taste hales from the midwest and Kansas City, nonetheless.  I know what I thought about Kansas City before I ever visited, and I have to say I was completely wrong about this place.  But that's for another day.  I didn't want to let the week pass me by without sharing these lovely blue & white rooms by Kansas City native Thomas Britt and his associate Valentino Samsonadze in the June issue of Veranda.  It's a fantastic issue!

Would you believe that banquette in the last image is just a box spring and a mattress on the floor?  I've often thought about doing that, but never had the nerve.  The tailored bedspread makes it look upholstered, which is key.   I really love all of these rooms. So inspired!

Somebody in Kansas Loves Blue & White

I love the traditional backdrop for blue & white in this Mission Hills colonial-style home in the month's Kansas City Spaces.

How gorgeous is this entry?

I always love to see the interiors of local homes, especially when they reflect my style.  If it were up to me, every issue would include a home with lots of blue and white.  Maybe I should send in my resume and offer to cover the blue and white beat.  Then I could go door-to-door and grill people on their blue and white usage while making mental notes of whom I want to be friends with later.

When I was in law school and I needed a break, I would drive around the beautiful Mission Hills, KS neighborhood and creepster stalk houses that I liked, driving by slowly to get a glimpse of the interiors in the windows.  This one may have prompted me to knock on the door and ask for a tour and a cup of coffee.

Local Lake House Love

Morning y'all! You all know I love a lake house almost as much as a beach house.  If I had to choose between having one or the other I would actually choose to own a lake house (see my dream lake house post) because that is what is more accessible to those of us in the land locked midwest (sigh). I was beyond delighted to see September's House Beautiful included this house, which is only about twenty minutes from us on Lake Lotawana!

Notice the Shatto milk* in the corner! More on that in a minute.

My favorite things about this house are the periwinkle blue windows and shutters (Benjamin Moore's Swiss Blue) and, of course, that kitchen with the floor-to-ceiling Delft blue tile and pistachio-stained cabinets (Benjamin Moore's Everglades).  I probably would have painted all of the wood, but that's just my thing.  Some people prefer the warmth and coziness of the dark wood.  I'm a cool, crisp white girl myself.  Thanks House Beautiful for remembering the Midwest! Y'all go get you a copy stat.  It's a good issue!

*Now for my little aside: Shatto Milk is the best. milk. ever.  Seriously y'all, I'm not even a milk drinker, but this is all we buy.  It's from a local farm located just north of Kansas City and comes in these cute glass bottles that you return to the grocery store when you are finished.  They also sell these adorable milk glasses on their website that I need to order.

The Suze loves milk (she can drink it like water) and she declared it the best milk she ever tasted.  You can only buy it at select stores in Missouri and Kansas so if you are ever this way, make it a priority to pick some up.

Have a lovely day y'all!

Striped Awnings

This is a house with my neighborhood with striped awnings that I've admired for awhile.  I'm thinking we may need to do something like this on the back of our house.  The Suze loves awnings too as you will remember here

It was 75 degrees today and I literally walked around the neighborhood for over an hour.  My hooves are tired, but it felt so good just to be outside.  I wanted to take a bunch of pictures of houses and such in my neighborhood, but on a day like today errbody is outside and I didn't want to be too much of a creep.  Luckily, I had my child and my dog with me to act as pretend subjects in the event that I got busted.

I generally organize my walks so I can walk past houses that please me.  My neighborhood is very 1970s in architecture, which is not so much my style but I've found a few gems I like.  This one in particular.  Hopefully, I can bring you more pictures on the one day it is nice again in March.
